Medical Assistance for Families, Pregnant Women, and Children

Categorically Needy (also referred to as Non-Money Payment (NMP) benefits) prescription drugs are a covered service for NMP Medical Assistance.

• All Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and SSI cash recipients.
• TANF-related Medical Assistance recipients.
• TANF cash eligible individuals who choose Medical Assistance coverage only.
• A child born to a Medical Assistance-eligible mother is eligible for Medical Assistance coverage for one year after birth if the child lives continuously with the mother.

Extended Medical Assistance Coverage (EMC)

People receiving TANF cash assistance or TANF-related Medical Assistance and had their cash or Medical Assistance discontinued due to:

• New or increased income from employment.
• Increased hours from employment.
• Loss of income disregards.
• New or increased child support income.

• Pregnant women and infants.
• Infants automatically covered up to age one if mother was eligible for Medical Assistance at time of child's birth and child lives with the mother.
• Children ages one through five.
• Children age six and older born after Sept. 30, 1983.

Medical Assistance Net Monthly Income Limits for Pregnant Women and Children Based on the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines:

**When determining which income eligibility limit applies to a pregnant woman, household size is increased by the number of unborn children. Example: If a woman verifies she is pregnant with twins, then she counts as three persons.

Medically Needy Only (MNO) Prescription drugs are usually not a covered service for MNO Medical Assistance.

Families and individuals whose income exceeds the limits for categorically needy Medical Assistance benefits.
