    Shared Living

In October 2011, the Department of Public Welfare issued a Request for Information (RFI) for Shared Living. The purpose of this RFI was to gather input on how the existing Lifesharing program might be improved within the Office of Developmental Programs and expand into the Office of Long Term Living and the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

While there were many well thought out, innovative solutions recommended, some of the key recommendations that were often repeated included:

    • Interdisciplinary standardized assessment tool
    • Allowing family members to provide the service
    • Availability of respite
    • Maintain a focus on ODP’s Everyday Lives and person centered planning
    • Continuous training for Shared Living caregivers

    Summary of the Input Received

Individual Responses to the Request for Information

As the Department of Public Welfare continues to explore the feasibility of expanding this program across the Office of Long Term Living, the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Office of Developmental Programs, input will continue to be sought and incorporated into any eventual program design.

The Department of Public Welfare greatly appreciates the feedback we received and look forward to a continuing conversation about this program.
