Justice Resource Institute (JRI) operates Cresson Secure Treatment Unit (CSTU) under contract with the Pennsylvania’s Department of Public Welfare. CSTU provides programming to adjudicated delinquent male youth.
The treatment program consists of individual, group and family counseling, social and interpersonal skill development, education, case management, residential life, recreational/physical fitness activities and community service programs. CSTU clinical staff are master-level clinicians with a variety of specialized areas of expertise.
CSTU offers Work Training Programs (WTP) for its youth. It is designed to provide wages for the youth while at the same time preparing them for employment through a successful work training experience.
The Work Training Program at CSTU is a highly vocational training experience that promotes teamwork, cooperation and competency development, and allows youth to learn a variety of different skills. A significant portion of each youth’s earnings are provided to the courts for restitution that may be owed.
The Appalachia Intermediate Unit #8 provides educational services for the facility. An education team consisting of a principal, guidance counselor, two special education teachers, five teachers, an Americorps Representative and an education secretary work together to provide educational opportunities for the youth at CSTU.
