Healthy Pennsylvania: Reforming Medicaid
The Healthy Pennsylvania plan is Governor Tom Corbett’s initiative focused on three key priorities: improving access; ensuring quality; and providing affordability. It is built upon common sense reforms that provide coverage options to our most vulnerable citizens in a flexible and sustainable way that protects taxpayers. Specifically, the Healthy Pennsylvania plan will:
- Increase health care access for more than 500,000 Pennsylvanians.
- Promote healthy behaviors, improve health outcomes and increase personal responsibility.
- Ensure that benefits match health care needs.
- Implement a strategy for aligning the current Medicaid program with the demonstration to create a sustainable Medicaid program.
The Department received input from the public on the Healthy Pennsylvania plan during seven statewide hearings and two webinars. The public was also invited to submit comments in writing to the Department by January 13, 2014. The Department received more than 1000 comments. The Department will develop the final waiver application based on the feedback from the public comment period. The Federal government will then have a 30-day public comment period after receiving the final application from Pennsylvania. At the conclusion of the Federal comment period the Federal and state government will work together for final approval of a Healthy Pennsylvania plan. Please continue to visit the Healthy Pennsylvania website for additional information.
