The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs provide a financial incentive for the "meaningful use" of certified EHR technology to achieve health and efficiency goals. By putting into action and meaningfully using an EHR system, providers will reap benefits beyond financial incentives–such as reduction in errors, availability of records and data, reminders and alerts, clinical decision support, and e-prescribing/refill automation. Meaningful Use reporting period is taken from the current calendar year, whereas, patient volume reporting period is taken from the previous calendar year.

Clinical Quality Measures
CQMs - this is an overview of the Clinical Quality Measures for eligible professionals and eligible hospitals.
CQM Electronic Specifications - this link provides the electronic specifications that include the data elements, logic and definitions for that measure in a format that can be captured or stored in the EHR so the data can be sent or shared electronically with other entities in a structured, standardized format, and unaltered.
