    Functional Behavioral Assessment Trainings

As of spring 2010 over 3,000 service providers have successfully completed one of three trainings developed by the Bureau of Autism Services. These trainings included:

    • Two-day Functional Behavioral Assessment and Treatment Plan Development Workshop
    • Advanced Functional Behavioral Assessment
    • Functional Behavioral Assessment Train-the-Trainer Workshop

Conducting an FBA is a key component of both the Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP) and the Autism Waiver. Individual needs and interests identified are used by the participants and their team to develop the services to be provided.

In addition, the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare issued a bulletin on January 9, 2009 declaring the use of an FBA during assessment and intervention as the standard of care for treating children and adolescents with behavioral health needs compounded by developmental disorders. The Bureau of Autism Services was instrumental in helping to develop the outlined service delivery standard.
